Barbara Brothers

Barbara Brothers is the Business Engagement Director for the Capital Area Workforce Development Board, promoting economic growth through partnerships with industry, economic development, and education.  CAWD is the region’s “go-to” partner for resources and funding support to meet workforce needs. During her time at CAWD, Barbara has championed innovative ideas to support workforce development focusing on small businesses. Examples include CAWD’s Pathway to Entrepreneurship and Small Business Workforce Development initiatives.

Pathway to Entrepreneurship supports aspiring entrepreneurs by broadening access to resources and providing business connections to minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, veterans, justice-involved populations, and vulnerable communities. Small business workforce development initiatives include work-based learning grants for the same targeted business owner categories. Earlier this year, Barbara led the first statewide Small Business Workforce Development Forum.

Barbara has experience in the retail and education sectors, leading teams toward exceeding company objectives while ensuring exceptional client satisfaction. Prior to joining CAWD, Barbara served as Executive Director of Corporate and Business Solutions at Wake Technical Community College, helping employers grow their businesses through workforce development, customized training, and the small business center.

A resident of NC for more than 15 years, Barbara earned her bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University.
